Footwear designs make a difference to all of us fashionistas who just can’t get enough of these fabulous fashion accessories. Shoe designs beckon us every fashion season with their stylish silhouettes, trendy colors, and unusual fabrications. Now, let’s add to that shoe brands that make an even bigger difference with their community involvement actions.
The one that touches everyone’s heart is TOMs. Founder Blake Mycoskie visited Argentina in 2006 where he witnessed the hardships of children growing up without shoes. To make a difference, that was the sign he had waited for. That was Mycoskie’s ah-ha moment. Mycoskie founded TOMs. Since 2006, TOMs has been able to provide over 10 million pairs of shoes worldwide.
Five years later, TOMs launched a second One-for-One: TOMs Eyewear, helping to provide sight to those in need around the world. To date, this corporate giving shoe brand has helped to restore 175,000 people’s vision around the world.
TOMs sells footwear designed for men, women, and children. The styles range from the ‘classic’ original design to wedges. Eyewear is also available for men and women.
When you think of Michael Kors, you probably think of his mega-fashion empire including his womenswear, menswear, jeans, shoes, handbags, and accessory lines. Named the ‘king of jet-set sportswear and shoes’, Kors does a whole lot more.
He partnered with the WFP/World Food Programme for his cleverly entitled campaign, ‘Watch Hunger Stop’. For every watch purchased, 100 meals are donated. The goal is to donate 5 million meals, and so far, 3.4 million have been delivered.
Until last year, Kors was a judge on the Emmy-nominated fashion reality television program Project Runway.
As the Kors footwear design prowess continues to set trends for Spring 2014, this woven sneaker proves to be just as much a winner as these two shoe brands that make a difference around the globe.
